Membership Application Instructions
We're delighted that you want to consider joining TOVSAR. If you follow these few steps the process will run very smoothly.
1. Print both the TOVSAR and North Mountain Fire & Rescue (NMFR) Applications from the website and complete both. Because TOVSAR is sponsored by NMFR, you need to join both groups, although you will not be expected to attend NMFR meetings or functions.
2. Go to a local office of the Department of Motor Vehicles and ask for a printed copy of your driving record. In Virginia it costs
$8 to get such a copy. Because you will be driving your own car to TOVSAR meetings and to searches, and because you may someday drive TOVSAR vehicles, NMFR insurance requires that your driving record be reviewed by the NMFR Chief at the time your application is reviewed. The Chief is the only person who reviews this information.
3.
Print the CRIMINAL HISTORY RECORD NAME SEARCH REQUEST,
SP-167 on the Virginia State Police web site. Fill out section 1, have it notarized
in section 1A, and return it to us to complete and submit (there is no fee
to you for this report).
4. Mail both applications, the driving record printout and the
SP-167 form to:

Applications are reviewed by TOVSAR officers and then submitted to NMFR for formal acceptance at the next business meeting. You will be notified by phone or e-mail. Of course, you are welcome to attend training sessions prior to your application becoming accepted (although, for insurance reasons, you may not be permitted to participate in certain activities).
